Niantic scored a major court victory. The Pokémon GO developers sued a cheat provider who now has to pay a fine in the millions.
That happens: Niantic sued cheat provider Global ++ in court. This offered hacked versions of Pokémon GO that could be used to manipulate your GPS. That was a thorn in Niantic’s side and he complained.
The case was made public in 2019, but now the verdict has been reached: Global ++ has to pay $ 5 million to Niantic. In addition, Global ++ can no longer sell programs that contain the code for Niantics games.
A big hit for cheaters?
What does the judgment mean now? Global ++ was one of the largest vendors on the market and, in addition to the Pokémon GO versions, it also sold pirated versions of Ingress and Wizards Unite, Niantic’s other games.
Of course, the provider can no longer sell programs.
However, there are many other providers that sell such programs. So phishing has not been completely defeated by this lawsuit.
However, it could now be assumed that other vendors of this kind of scam have also been warned. You could then file a lawsuit and fear the huge compensation payment. It remains to be seen if even more providers will withdraw as a result.
