In Pokémon GO, a nasty bug turns into a prank that costs you a lot of experience points. Niantic even warns against using lucky eggs.
What error is it? It affects the XP you get from friendship promotions. This is how you level up with your friends, but you don’t get any EPs. Typically, depending on the friendship level, there are up to 100,000 EP to advance, with a lucky egg even up to 200,000 EP.
It is not entirely clear if all players are affected or just a small selection. The truth is that some coaches do not get any EP for friendship promotions.
Niantic compensates affected players
The developer writes on Twitter: Niantic writes that it is currently best not to use any lucky eggs in advancing friendship. The Lucky Egg is currently useless because you won’t get any promotional EPs anyway. Other stocks with lucky eggs are likely not at risk. So if you use eggs in a raiding lesson, for example, to gain a lot of experience, you can do it without hesitation.
The developers also recommend that you contact support (via Niantic) if the bug affects you. Coaches on Twitter and reddit write that they were later compensated with raid passes, among other things.

Is there a way to avoid the error? There is no real solution here. We recommend that you do not run friendship promotions at this time. Gather your hyper and best friends first and only get up with them when the bug is fixed.
So make sure that shortly before ascension you don’t send your friend any more gifts or that you no longer open your friend’s last gift.
This is why the error is so nasty: Leveling up with friends is the best way to quickly earn experience points in Pokémon GO. There is no other method that gives you so much XP. Now you just have to do without these experience points, so that you level up much more slowly.
