This game can still generate revenue of up to trillions of rupiah for its parent company. Data from Sensor Tower also shows that Pokemon Go on average can make a profit of around Rp. 14 trillion per year. The existence of policies to reduce outdoor activities due to COVID 19, which occurred worldwide in 2020 has proven to be beneficial for the gaming industry. In this situation, Niantic also did not miss the profit splashing through the Pokemon Go game.

Data from Sensor Tower shows that the company was able to make a profit of around USD 1.3 billion (Rp 18 trillion) last year. This is the company’s best record in Pokemon Go’s five years of existence. The profit figure surpassed the previous record set in 2019 when the company was able to rake in about $400 million (Rp5 trillion) from Pokemon Go players.

In addition to reporting on the company’s profits, Sensor Tower also attributed the surge in success that occurred in Pokemon Go in 2020 to an update from Niantic for the game. Companies can take advantage of the situation during the pandemic, by creating virtual reality games that allow people to still play Pokemon Go without having to leave their homes or gather in large crowds. The update seems to be well received by fans of the Pokemon GO game.

Niantic has hinted that they are planning to roll back some changes to Pokemon Go that were triggered by the pandemic. However, some changes will be retained, while some new adjustments will be added. So far, Niantic seems to be enjoying the popularity of the game as the company will be hosting the Pokemon Go Fest online on July 17 and 18.
