Pokémon designs become repetitive –

While The Pokémon Company reveals more Pokémon for the next Pokémon Scarlet and Purple, the cracks in the recycled formula of Pokémon designs are starting to become apparent. Each build starts with a series of basic elements on a checklist, starting with: all fire, water, or grass. There are the first rodent Pokémon in the early routes, and each game always features two main Legendary Pokémon on the cover of each title.

The Pokémon Company needs to come up with more original ideas and change the basic formula of how new Pokémon are presented and marketed. While some models have resembled other Pokémon in the past, sometimes on purpose, as is the case with Pokémon like Mimikyu, there are pocket monsters in Pokémon Scarlet and Purple too similar to other Pokémon of previous generations.

Smoliv looks like BudewScreenshot- (16) -1

Smoliv was one of the first Pokémon to do this scarlet and purple be revealed. The similarities between him and Budew are obvious, from the round bump on the top of the head to the small overall size of both Pokémon. They are both Grass-type. Budew has poison as a secondary type while Smoliv is normal. While Smoliv’s scared and shy personality certainly shines through, the Pocket Monster’s size, shape and type make it impossible not to see the similarities to Budew.

“Clone Pikachu” is a tradition that The Pokémon Company has been carrying on since Pichu’s first appearance. Pawmi continues the trend of Pikachu clones, thus failing to stand out as a unique Pokémon. The size and color are also very similar to Dedenne, and although there are some small visual differences, the two could be easily confused. Dedenne is more interesting to use thanks to its Electric / Fairy typing, while Pawmi is just Electric. Pawmi is delightfully pretty but lacks her sense of originality.
