From Saturday, visitors to the Van Gogh Museum will no longer be able to receive a special Pokémon card if they have completed a scavenger hunt. Collectors and fans of the Japanese game crowded in and around the museum last week to get their hands on the special cards.
“As a result of recent incidents in which a small group of individuals created an undesirable situation, we have made the difficult decision to no longer make the special Pikachu x Van Gogh Museum promotional card available in the museum,” the museum writes on its website.
The card with the well-known Pokemon character Pikachu is especially popular. On Marktplaats people ask hundreds of euros for the card. Dutch people who would like to get the card for a normal price can go to a number of stores from the beginning of next year.
It is not yet clear what these are, but in any case the map will no longer be available through the Van Gogh Museum. Fans from the United Kingdom, the United States and Canada will soon be able to order the special card on the Pokémon Center website.

Well-known Van Gogh works provided inspiration for Pokémon art
In honor of the Van Gogh Museum’s fiftieth anniversary, various activities around Pokémon have been taking place since the end of September. For example, Pokémon paintings for which works by Vincent van Gogh were the inspiration are on display.
With the collaboration, the Amsterdam museum wants to introduce a new audience to Van Gogh’s work.
