‘Pokémon’, after 25 years, finally makes Ash champion

    “Pokémon Ultimate Journeys” spoilers continue

It took him 25 years, but Ash Ketchum, the protagonist of “Pokémon”, did the unthinkable and finally achieved his lifelong ambition. Throughout the character’s history, in various series of the franchise, Ash’s dream was to “catch ’em all” and become “the best, the best there will ever be”; After more than two decades of hard work, he has now achieved his goal.

In the latest episode of “Pokémon Ultimate Journeys”, titled “The Finals IV: Partner”, Ash defeated Leon in an uphill battle to finally become the Pokémon World Champion, the highest honor for a trainer.

The match spanned four episodes, with Ash going head-to-head with his trusty sidekick Pikachu, marking the culmination of his journey from Pallet Town to the top of the world. A tweet from the series’ official account celebrated the news, writing, “He did it! Ash has become a world champion.”

Sarah Natochenny, who voiced the character in the English version, was delighted with the development, tweeting:

I can’t wait to share the English dub of this Pokemon episode with the world. What an absolute honor to voice Ash Ketchum when he becomes world champion. He really is the best, the best there will ever be.

It’s been a long, and at one point seemingly never-ending adventure, with the character consistently failing to make it into leagues and tournaments throughout the anime’s history. His luck changed in Season 22 of the series, with his regional tournament win in Pokémon: Sun & Moon being his first major win, leading to his becoming a Master, in 2019.

According to tradition, each season of the anime coincides with a video game, and the latest one, Scarlet and Purple, will be released on November 18th. The games, which will be available only for the Nintendo Switch, are the first releases of the ninth generation of the series.
