The 25th day of National 1 was the penultimate before the end of the first phase. Poitiers, Tours and LyonSO are the big winners, Andrézieux-Bouthéon and Cergy-Pontoise the major losers. Find everything you need to know.
Tuesday evening was the penultimate day of the first phase of National 1. Enough to make the stakes particularly high with regard to the fight for the Top 5, thus allowing hope for direct accession to Pro B , or to avoid low chicken, synonymous with maintaining NM1.
The race for the Top 5
Pool A
In the West, four teams are now guaranteed to participate in the upper pool: Rennes, Chartres, the surprise Loon Plage and Poitiers. The PB86 scored their ticket on Tuesday by disposing of Les Sables d’Olonne (69-59). The reward for a nice turnaround, highlighted by coach Andy Thornton-Jones in the columns of The New Republic. “This validates our presence in the upper pool, the first objective we set ourselves with the team. It was a pleasure. On the evening of the first leg against Loon-Plage, we were five wins for six losses and we were not in great shape. But we managed to reverse the situation with a good series (11 wins over the last 14 games). The team has been evolving for three months. We want to continue to progress. We don’t want to stop there. »
For the last ticket, Toulouse took the advantage over Vitré. After being led by 16 points by Tarbes-Lourdes, the TBC won at the finish thanks to a last basket from Maxence Dadiet (76-74) while the Aurore fell to the leader Chartres (76-79). But the Bretons having the average basket, everything will be decided in the last match, with a more favorable program for them: they will receive Rueil while Toulouse will go to Loon Plage.
Pool B
Andrézieux-Bouthéon is going to bite his fingers! With the defeat of Le Havre at home against Orchies (94-96), the ABLS had a golden opportunity to regain 5th place, thanks to the basket-average. But no, Laurent Pluvy’s team was unable to win in Toulon (86-92), thus losing their second game of the season against HTV (-19 in the first leg). Despite the affordable reception of Pont-de-Chéruy on Friday, the upper hen now seems unaffordable since the Normans will welcome a team from Kaysersberg in distress. KABCA have lost 7 of their last 8 games, including 33 points yesterday in Rouen. In the East, the RMB, Orchies, Caen and Mulhouse have already qualified for the top of the table.
The race to maintain
Pool A
After a catastrophic start to the season, Tours has revived tremendously under the leadership of Valérie Garnier. And the TMB can still maintain its crazy dream of playoffs. Thus, the teammates of Scott Suggs (23 points) took a huge step towards maintaining by beating Lorient (88-79). “So it’s a match full of the team, and the match that was needed in terms of combat values”underlines the former technician of the Blue in the columns of The New Republic. Tours almost had the perfect evening since its direct competitor, Tarbes-Lourdes, lost at the finish in Toulouse. The Tourangeaux will try to finish the job in Tarbes on Friday, knowing that they have a nice safety mattress (+28). But Tours will play for the win, warns Valérie Garnier. “We won’t have to go there to maintain the 28-point lead but to win because it’s interesting for us to stay in a positive spiral…”
On the other hand, the Touraine victory buried the last hopes of Berck, despite the short success of the ABBR in the den of the Pole France (78-76). But this gives it all the more importance as this result will be kept for the low hen.
Pool B
In the East, the fight is raging to grab 10th place since four teams are tied between 9th and 12th position: Pont-de-Chéruy, Cergy-Pontoise, Boulogne-sur-Mer and Feurs. As such, the excellent operation was carried out by LyonSO which almost won its direct maintenance by winning in Besançon (82-80) with Romain Parmentelot’s best career game (26 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists). “It’s a huge relief”, recognizes coach Maxence Broyer in Le Progrès. The other big winner is the SOMB: in very bad shape at the beginning of February, the northern team signed its fourth victory in a row, at a direct competitor in addition (79-72 in Cergy). All that was missing was the basket-average for the evening to be perfect.
On Friday, it will certainly be appropriate to take out the calculators. While LyonSO will definitely try to validate its rescue against Orchies, the SOPCC (which has done good to morale by dominating Mulhouse) will go to Andrézieux, Cergy-Pontoise will not have the easy task by going precisely to the MBA, Boulogne will host Caen and Feurs will host Besançon.
