Saturday’s SM final in Avicii Arena will be a match between Team Thoren – who scored the most goals forward of all teams in the regular season (243) – and the series winner Pixbo – who conceded the least goals backwards (80).
Umeå team Team Thoren has an offensive edge in abundance, including Emelie Wibron who set a personal points record in the regular season with 50 goals and a total of 85 points in 26 matches.
In the playoffs, she has scored another 25 points – two behind the record for most points scored in a playoff (27).
– It has been a very good season for both me and the team and we are very well prepared. We could hardly have had a better way here. But we will do our absolute best performance in the final, says Wibron.
“Love these matches”
The veteran has been in these situations before and has five Swedish Championship golds and three silver medals on the merit list. But she has hardly slowed down over the years.
This season she has played her perhaps best floorball ever.
And you feel like a player who raises you in the playoffs and finals?
– Absolutely, I love playing these matches. The series is just a preparation for the playoffs, so before a final you are always extra charged. I want to win every final I play. You never know when you’ll get the chance again. I’m extremely charged actually, says Wibron.
Pixbo has “the world’s best goalkeeper”
The one who will stop Wibron and Team Thoren’s other snipers is Pixbo’s goalkeeper Lara Heini.
According to SVT’s expert Anna Wijk is the Swiss world’s best floorball goalkeeper.
– I came to Sweden to play these matches. I have experienced some finals in Switzerland as well, but never in such a large arena. Defensive will be the key and we can never rest because Team Thoren has so many skilled players who are difficult to defend against, says Heini.
You already have a Swedish Championship silver. What would a gold mean?
– A lot. Last year was a “test final”, I usually say. It was the wrong arena and no audience. This year it will be really, really fun. It feels like a 50/50 match.
SVT broadcasts the final starting at 12.00 in the first and Play.
