PEC Zwolle was just unable to win at RKC Waalwijk in the last away match of this Premier League season. Lennart Thy seemed to be the match winner for a long time with the only goal of the match, but after a red card for Zico Buurmeester, things went wrong in the final phase (1-1).
Hauptmeijer rewarded
Trainer Johnny Jansen again had Thomas Lam and Younes Namli at his disposal, who returned after a suspension. Davy van den Berg was also fit enough to play for an hour. Opponent RKC Waalwijk is still trying to avoid the play-offs and had the first big chance in the first half. David Min came face to face with Mike Hauptmeijer, who was given the opportunity for this match by Jansen, who prevented the French striker from scoring. Just before half time, the goalie also had a nice reflex on an attempt by Min. PEC also had the necessary opportunities in the first 45 minutes. Filip Krastev came face to face with goalkeeper Etienne Vaessen and Namli shot into the side netting from a promising position. Perhaps the biggest chance was for Thomas Lam, whose header from a corner was saved by Vaessen.

The second half did not end without goals. After Namli fired a warning shot, it was Lennart Thy who scored with a shot that deflected: 0-1. RKC also thought they could score, but did so in an offside position. PEC then had opportunities to decide the game definitively, Namli and Van der Water, among others, had chances. RKC also had good chances, but Hauptmeijer showed that he is (once again) an excellent stand-in for Schendelaar. Things still went wrong for Zwolle in the final phase. Substitute Zico Buurmeester received a questionable red card from Bas Nijhuis because he allegedly knocked down a player who had broken through. From the subsequent free kick, the ball came to Richonell Margaret, who shot the equalizer behind Hauptmeijer: 1-1. That was it, meaning PEC had to settle for a point.
The last competition match of the season is scheduled for next Sunday and that will also be the last match of captain Bram van Polen. The opponent is FC Twente and we kick off in the MAC3PARK stadium at 2.30 pm.
