(miw), Two days before the end of the season, a preliminary decision is looming in the fight for promotion to the men’s handball league. If HSG Pohlheim gets a point in the away game in Offenbach-Bürgel, they can no longer be relegated from first place. For HSG Wettenberg, HSG Breckenheim/Wallau/Massenheim is also about everything.

If you want to keep the chance of staying up in the league, two points are mandatory for the difficult task. For the third local representative, the HSG Kleenheim-Langgöns, it is not all that much at stake at the bottom of the table, HSG Hanau II.

promotion round

HSG Hanau II – HSG Kleenheim-Langgöns (Sat., 6 p.m.): In the insignificant encounter in the table, the personal omens are once again bad for the HSG Kleenheim-Langgöns. There was a corona outbreak in the Kleenheim team, so many players were out. Coach Matthias Wendlandt commented on the game in the third division reserve of HSG Hanau, against which you won the first leg: “It looks really bad in terms of personnel. We want to win this game. We’re traveling with eight or nine players and we’ll see what’s going on. It’s positive that Josh Hantl is back.«

TSG Offenbach-Bürgel – HSG Pohlheim (Sun., 5:30 p.m., Sportfabrik Offenbach): The signs are clear: if HSG Pohlheim gets a point in the away game on the Main, they will play in the 3rd division next season. Offenbach showed mixed results in the promotion round – for example, a victory over promotion aspirant Melsungen II is offset by a defeat against TSV Vellmar. HSG coach Andi Lex is expecting a game at a high Oberliga level: »Offenbach have a very good team, it will be a difficult game. This first match point game is definitely a special game, we also know how explosive it is for us. We’re in euphoria at the moment, we’re not going to let up and want to go home with a point or two. The aim is to win the two remaining games.« Since the first leg went well for Pohlheim, Lex expects that the hosts will want to take revenge in their last home game. A lot of support can be expected on the Pohlheimer side, many fan registrations already exist. In terms of personnel, the Pohlheimers are all on board, so they can arrive with a full band.

relegation round

HSG Breckenheim/Wallau/Massenheim – HSG Wettenberg (Sat., 6 p.m., Hans-Jürgen-Portmann-Halle Wiesbaden): There is a lot at stake for both teams in this game. Wettenberg is currently in fifth place with 12:12 points, Breckenheim/Wallau/Massenheim in third place with 14:8 points and accordingly in the first non-relegation zone. If Wettenberg still has a chance of staying up in the league in the last home game against Münster, they need two more points to add to the guests’ account. HSG coach Axel Spandau said beforehand: “It’s all or nothing, for us and for Wallau. With Schaeffter, Teuner, Kaufmann and the Mrowietz brothers, you have incomparable throwing power. Philipp Botzenhardt provides playful elements, Timo Treber is dangerous with his speed. We’re going there with the motto – nothing is impossible.« Goalkeeper Julian Ruppert is out for Wettenbergen, and Tom Warnke’s use is a question mark.
