On Sunday, the tour ended with a 122-kilometer 21st stage, which ended in the Champs Elysées. At the beginning of the stage, cyclists overcame one ascent of the fourth category, but in the second half of the stage they completed eight laps on the streets of Paris.

To ensure victory, Pogachar, who will celebrate his 22nd birthday on Monday, had to finish close to his closest followers in the overall standings, which he did. An unwritten agreement stipulates that the athletes of the last stage will be measured together, the winner will be determined only in the finals of the finish.

In the final stage of the sprint, the first to cross the finish line was the Irish Sam Benett (“Deceuninck – Quick Step”), who beat the world champion Madsu Piedersen from Denmark (“Trek – Segafredo”), and the third was the Slovak Peter Sagan (“BORA – hansgrohe”). The leading athletes spent two hours 53 minutes and 32 seconds in the distance.

Pogačars crossed the finish line eight seconds later, finishing in the fifth tenth.

21-year-old Pogachar is the second-ever winner of the Tour de France. In 1904, at the age of 19 and 352 days, the Frenchman Erni Conte was crowned the winner of the second French tour in history.

Pogačars became the leader in the overall standings on Saturday when he won an individual race, taking away the yellow shirt from his compatriot Primimož Roglič (“Jumbo-Visma”).

In the last stage, Latvian cyclists also took part in the start Christ Neilands (“Israel Start-Up Nation”) un Toms Skujins (“Trek – Segafredo”). For Neiland, this was his debut in France, but Skujiņš participated in this competition for the third year in a row.

The Tour de France, which is rightly considered one of the largest sporting events in the world, celebrated its 107th anniversary this year.
