The book “En algunos lugar del tiempo” (Somewhere in Time) poems and memories of Carlos “Tamba” Aragón will be presented at the Museum of Word and Image (MUPI), a literary rescue carried out by Julio “Jacinto” Molina, published by Chifurnia Libros. The activity will take place on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at 4:30 pm at the MUPI headquarters. The work includes 21 poems, and includes testimonies from friends who knew the Salvadoran poet and musician.
Carlos “Tamba” Aragon, was born On June 19, 1952, he finished high school at the Externado San José. His nickname comes from his time as a student, when in sports class he moved like the monkey “Tamba” from the television series “Jim de la Selva”. With his classmates he formed a rock band called “The Blue Souls”, with Manuel Martínez (keyboard), Ricardo Archer (bass), Carlos Aragón (Voice).
Tamba joined Paquito Palaviccini’s orchestra. He began studying Economics at the UCA in 1969. In 1970 he studied music at the National Arts Center (CENAR). At the same time, he started in “La Banda del Sol”, with whom he recorded two songs of his own, “El planeta de los cerdos” and “El perdedor”, published on the album Unidad, in 1971.
At the end of the 1970s, he joined the FPL. His war name was “Sebastian”. Returning to La Montañona from a military campaign in the La Palma area, he was ambushed by paramilitaries and died in combat in September 1981.
“Somewhere in Time” a book in memory of Tamba Aragón, will be presented at the MUPI located at 27 North Avenue, La Esperanza Urbanization #1140, between 19 and 21 West San Salvador Street.
