Anil Panachooran was different. In word, line and life. He amazed in many different roles as a monk, poet and lyricist. While studying at Kakatiya University, Panachooran became interested in monastic life. The same poet who wrote from the blood-soaked soil with excitement in his veins filled me with love and wrote ‘Niyam Thanalin Thazhe’, ‘Is there anyone singing beside me’ to ‘Jimmy Kimmel’ and amazed me. The song ‘I want to hear the news that I will be back’ brought the expatriates to tears. ‘Once again, if you stay here, I will not know my birthright.’
The campuses and the left movements in Kerala once sang loudly along with Panachooran who wrote that the idea of equality will never die ‘Fallen birds in the net’ and ‘love time’ spread like wildfire on campuses. At the age of 51, Anil Panachooran returns to a journey that will never return, marking himself as a poet. Only poetry remains.
