Podemos RD Coalition carries out a “blood drive” to promote donation culture

Podemos R, D Coalition and the National Network of Neighborhood Councils held a meeting on Saturday 31st August at 3:00 pm at the Los Billeteros club in SDE, and “Blood Collection Operation” sponsored by the National Homocenterin which more than 100 people will participate as donors.

The coordinator of Podemos RD: Silvia Soto Fernandez He said that the objective of the event is, on the one hand, to promote the culture of blood donation in the country, and on the other, to help supply the National Blood Center with blood so that they can respond to the demand of a greater number of people, since at that time the supply levels are very low.

He pointed out that the country suffers from a major blood shortage, which is why obtaining this precious liquid is a great challenge for hundreds of Dominicans who need to obtain it in the midst of a medical emergency, since, many times, they either cannot find the type of blood they need, or they do not have a family member or donor who is able to donate, or they are not immediately available.

Soto Fernández said that sometimes the only option citizens have is to buy blood, but that a single pint can cost up to 9,000 pesos, an amount that many people cannot afford, and that the situation gets worse when more than one pint is required, explained the social activist.

The civic movement expressed its commitment to coordinate the realization of other blood drives in different communities of the Santo Domingo province, through the more than 200 neighborhood associations and other entities that make up the National Network of Neighborhood Associations, one of the specialized organizations of the citizen platform.

Finally, the organization reported that it has reached an agreement with the National Homocenter, which will allow people who donate at least twice a year through the organization, in addition to having the privilege of contributing to saving a life or restoring someone’s health, to be guaranteed, for themselves and their families, the obtaining of the blood they need for an emergency or medical situation.

Finally, they call on citizens to come and donate blood, and say that this action costs nothing and can guarantee many people the most precious thing: life.
