Fresenius University of Applied Sciences

Fresenius University of Applied Sciences turns 175: In 1848 Carl Remigius Fresenius founded the Fresenius Chemical Laboratory, which later became the University. The Fresenius Bildungsgruppe will take the 175th anniversary next year as an opportunity to launch a special six-part adhibeo podcast. Since December 21st, the producers have been inviting the public to take a look into the past with them and also to look a little into the future. Shortly before his birthday on December 28, 1818, the founding father himself is the focus of the first episode of the podcast.
Chemist, scientist, father of chemical analysis, start-up entrepreneur, visionary, problem solver and teacher: Carl Remigius Fresenius’ work was extensive and still leaves its mark today. Even as a young man he was a practitioner: during his training as a pharmacist he conducted chemical experiments in his parents’ garden. From 1840 he studied natural sciences in Bonn, later moved to Gießen to further his studies at the chemical-pharmaceutical institute of the renowned Justus von Liebig and then became professor of chemistry, physics and technology at the Nassau ducal agricultural institute in Wiesbaden .
At the age of just 23 he published his seminal work “Instructions for Qualitative Chemical Analysis”, with which he shaped analytical chemistry in Germany and far beyond – today it would be a bestseller. In 1848 he founded the “Fresenius Chemical Laboratory” in Wiesbaden. For him, research, teaching, and practice were inextricably linked: “Research thoroughly, speak truthfully, write concisely, teach clearly!” A guiding principle that still lives on today at Fresenius University of Applied Sciences.
What was Carl Remigius Fresenius like as a person? What prompted him? What legacy has he left behind? Can his spirit still be felt today in the Fresenius Bildungsgruppe? With many anecdotes from his life and a wink, a picture of Carl Remigius is drawn in the first episode.
prof. Dr. Leo Gros, member of the university council of the Hochschule Fresenius, former vice president and history expert, answered questions from Silke Schumacher, head of communication at COGNOS AG, and Melanie Hahn, press officer of the Hochschule Fresenius. Marc Bauer, Head of Talent Acquisition & Development at COGNOS AG, lends his voice to Carl Remigius Fresenius.
The six-part adhibeo podcast special “175 Years of Education in the Name of Fresenius” will be released until the anniversary celebration on May 31 next year, and is one of many anniversary campaigns.
