We had to pull ourselves together not to to laugh. My text was actually: ‘Father is gone’ and I said: ‘Father is dead’. My colleague looked at me, we both turned really pale and we had to pinch our lips together to keep from laughing I somehow turned it into: “So dead, figuratively speaking, because he’s not there. He’s gone…” Such misfires or slips of the tongue are rare for her, explains Häntsch, because she has actually always internalized the texts well.

Cool in Berlin

The fact that the actress grew up in Berlin and also speaks the dialect benefited her in the new film of “We Children from Bahnhof Zoo”. She plays the role of Christiane F.’s overwhelmed mother so realistically, as if she knew this situation from her own experience. Angelina Häntsch had a sheltered childhood in posh Wilmersdorf. But she didn’t want to appear well-behaved and stuffy, she wanted to come across as cool as possible. “As a teenager, I sat on the floor in the S-Bahn. That was our rebellious act of not using the seats in the S-Bahn and subway, but rather the floor. And at 14 I always had it “, eyes painted completely black. That was a goth phase, grunge… and I thought that if I just sat there and looked evil, I would be cool,” the actress smiles, but also admits that she was actually just wanted to hide.

Meeting Ethan Hawke

A very special moment in the life of the then very young Angelina Häntsch was a meeting with the actor Ethan Hawke. She was in London with a friend at the time and had tickets for a play with the big Hollywood star. Hoping to meet him, the two strategically sat on a bench at the stage entrance. “And then he came running by and we were kind of frightened fan girls. ‘Oh my God, that’s where he’s from Reality Bites.’ This is a 90s film that I thought was really, really great as a teenager. He then chatted with us a bit. And then he went to the theater and played the performance, which was really great.” To this day, Angelina Häntsch is happy about this special experience and emphasizes that she will remember this evening forever.

In an interview with Ilka Steinhausen, the actress also talks about her life as a mother of a small child, playgrounds in Hamburg and reveals which vegetarian restaurants she particularly enjoys eating in.
