Podcast // Exhibition IM TIEFENRAUSCH: Silent Film Soundtrack

Adding live music to a silent film like Buster Keaton’s THE NAVIGATOR? With a group of ten students? Accordionist Eva Zöllner and Professor Ralph Abelein from the University of Music and Performing Arts in Frankfurt am Main have set themselves the task. In the accompanying program to the exhibition IM TIEFENRAUSCH. Film unter Wasser (July 1, 2022 to January 8, 2023) they set the music to two films. The first silent film concert for THE NAVIGATOR will take place on Sunday, July 17 at 6 p.m. in the DFF cinema. The film 20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA (US 1916) will be sounded live by students on Sunday, January 8, 2023. In the podcast discussion with Frauke Haß, Abelein and Zöllner talk about the challenges of a live and group improvised soundtrack of a more than one-hour film.
