The Philippine National Police’s Anti-Cybercrime Group is currently investigating the recent data leak that affected over a million employees and applicants of the said agency. The leak involves possible violations of the Data Privacy Act of 2012. PNP assures the public that they are collaborating with the Department of Information and Communications Technology and the DICT Secretary John Uy to ensure the safety, privacy, and security of information in their custody, and strictly comply with the provisions of the said act. Reports show that the leaked data contains clearances issued by PNP, National Bureau of Investigation, Bureau of Internal Revenue, and Civil Service Commission but Uy denies that there was a “massive” data breach or hacking. Instead, he said that there was a vulnerability in the system, which resulted in a data leak.
