The PNC assured that it will initiate an ex officio investigation after the dissemination of a video that shows a group of agents being threatened with a weapon by a man, and leaving the scene without confronting the situation.

In the images, several people are seen gathered in an outdoor dining room, under an awning, when the PNC agents enter the place.

According to the description of the videos that were shared on social networks, the events occurred in a cevichería in Jutiapa, on October 3, 2024, as confirmed by the date and time of the video surveillance system.

The videos, without sound, show a man in a plaid shirt arguing with the agents.

Shortly after, he heads towards a white pick-up truck parked nearby and, after opening the driver’s door, he pulls out a gun and points it at both the officers and the people present.

The immediate reaction of the police was to retreat and withdraw from the area.

The Department of Social Communication of the PNC reported that the first step is to verify the authenticity of the video and the circumstances under which the incident occurred.

It has not yet been confirmed whether the events occurred at the indicated location, but the PNC gave details about the procedure to follow.

First of all, the agents involved will be identified and their statement about what happened will be requested.

The PNC ensures that its agents receive training to respond to these types of situations, in which security is compromised.

If it is confirmed that the agents did not act appropriately, the corresponding responsibilities will be deducted.

Regarding the man who threatened them with the weapon, the PNC indicated that a process will be carried out to establish his identity and whereabouts.

This case is comparable to that of Luis Mario Morales Heredia, alias “Canche Heredia.” In January 2023, he threatened two police officers in a court in Chiquimula, a case also documented on video and disseminated on social networks.
