On May 15, Prime Minister (PM) Pham Minh Chinh worked with the leaders of the Ministry of Health on the execution of tasks and recommendations in the context of COVID-19.

Regarding the situation of the COVID-19 epidemic and the measures taken, Minister of Health Nguyên Thanh Long said that the number of new cases in Vietnam may continue to increase. As of May 13, 969,730 doses of coronavirus vaccine had been injected.
Vietnam currently has 4 units that are working to research and produce national vaccines, he said, adding that if the research is successful, a Vietnamese vaccine could be available in 2022.
Regarding the execution of the tasks of the health sector, Minister Nguyên Thanh Long said that several objectives assigned by the National Assembly and the government in 2020 had been achieved, including a rate of 28 hospital beds / 10,000 people or 90.85% of the population covered by health insurance.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister said he appreciated the great contributions of the health sector in this fight against the coronavirus, before reaffirming Vietnam’s desire to contain COVID-19.
He underlined the particular importance of protecting the health of the population, the successful and safe organization of the elections of deputies of the XVe legislature of the National Assembly and members of the People’s Councils at all levels for the 2021-2026 term, scheduled for May 23.
The head of government encouraged the Ministry of Health to develop its achievements by seeking to remedy weaknesses, strengthen the training of human resources as well as international multisectoral cooperation …
