PM wants more proactive action to reduce Covid-19 spread The news

Riga, October 26, LETA. Covid-19 is spreading faster in Latvia than we have been able to react, so we need to be more proactive, says Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš (JV).

The war stressed to journalists on Monday after the coalition parties met that the Covid-19 pandemic posed a serious risk to general public health.

“We now have the opportunity to act decisively to prevent a situation that could cost many lives and cause great economic loss to the country,” Karin said, recalling that a meeting of the relevant authorities was convened on Tuesday to decide on possible additional restrictions and testing capacity.

“The virus is spreading faster than we have been able to respond. We also need a clear strategy,” the prime minister said, adding that increasing testing capacity has proven effective elsewhere in the world in controlling the infection.

Kariņš emphasized that it was too early to talk about possible additional restrictions, although he pointed out that on Tuesday it should be understood how this situation is managed.

“So far, since the lifting of the state of emergency, we have returned to government work, where each ministry works in its own field. But we see that the situation is evolving so that the pandemic is no longer a single industry. very many aspects, “said the Prime Minister.

The head of government said that he needed a clear strategy for dealing with different circumstances, as well as increasing testing capacity.

“We need to be able to rule out the possibility that a person who feels sick has contracted Covid-19. We have seen a localized case where this approach works. Kuldiga specifically performed tests, found patients and isolated them,” the politician reminded.

Kariņš warned that the country is currently in a situation bordering on the fact that Covid-19 could once again injure an economy that was not experienced in the summer and early autumn.

“In order to avoid a situation where the economy starts behaving the way we would like, we need to have mechanisms in place for the government to be able to act. I think we need to be much more proactive. We need to decide on strategy and put in place the mechanisms , “said Kariņš.

He explained that the government must work together to make decisions that lead to a positive outcome and are understandable to the public.
