Prime Minister (PM) Pham Minh Chinh successfully completed his business trip to the United States to participate in the 78 High Level Weeke session of the United Nations General Assembly and bilateral activities (September 17 to 23), as well as his official visit to Brazil from September 23 to 26.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s business trip aimed to concretize and implement the foreign policy of the 13the National Party Congress, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son told the Vietnam News Agency (VNA).

During the United Nations sessions, the Prime Minister’s speech showed the image of Vietnam cherishing and working for peace and stability and developing strongly socio-economically. At the same time, Vietnam has a growing role, position and prestige on the international stage.

The Prime Minister took full advantage of all conditions to develop and open new relations with other countries through dozens of contact activities.

The partners all expressed appreciation for Vietnam’s position, role and positive voice, and agreed to increase delegation exchanges and cooperation in the fields of politics, diplomacy, economy, commerce, science and technology, labor, tourism…

Leaders of many countries support the importance of peaceful settlement of disputes in the East Sea on the basis of international law, notably the UNCLOS of 1982, guaranteeing security, safety and freedom of navigation and aviation in this region. maritime area.

On this occasion, Vietnam established diplomatic relations with Tonga, bringing the total number of countries with diplomatic relations with Vietnam to 193.

For the United States, this is the first business trip of one of the top Vietnamese leaders after the establishment of a comprehensive strategic partnership framework by the two countries, contributing to the implementation of the agreements reached during President Biden’s visit to Vietnam. The Prime Minister had dozens of meetings and participated in events in San Francisco, Washington DC and New York, in the presence of senior officials of the American authorities, the American Congress, businesses, intellectuals, long-time friends date and representatives of the Vietnamese community in the United States.

The official visit to Brazil of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh constitutes a concrete step in the implementation of the foreign policy of the XIIIe National Congress of the Party, notably the strengthening of relations with other traditional friendly countries, of which Brazil is a first-rate partner. The visit takes place at a very significant time, when the two countries will celebrate in 2024 the 35 years of the establishment of their diplomatic relations and the 16 years of their integral partnership. The two sides issued a joint communiqué testifying to the scope of bilateral relations and guiding their future cooperation.

Regarding priorities in the future, according to the head of diplomacy, with the UN, Vietnam must continue to deepen its relations to take full advantage of international support, launch initiatives and have contributions commensurate with its role, its position and the expectations of the international community; organizing numerous events and participating in many important United Nations agencies.

With the United States, the two sides will prioritize efficient, harmonious and sustainable economic, trade and investment fields, viewing science, technology and innovation as revolutionary areas of cooperation, and continue to cooperate in areas of education and training, focusing on the training of high quality human resources and in responding to climate change.

With Brazil, the two countries aim to increase bilateral trade turnover to 10 billion USD in 2025 and 15 billion in 2030; to promote labor and investment cooperation.

Vietnam hopes that Brazil, a founding member and currently rotating chair of the Southern Common Market (abbreviated as Mercosur or Mercosul), will continue to support and promote the early launch of negotiations on the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between Vietnam and Mercosur. The two sides will continue to negotiate a number of agreements in the areas of technical cooperation, diplomacy, investment, security, people-to-people exchanges and decentralized cooperation.
