On this special occasion, PM Modi will reach the house of his party MP and Union Minister Dr L Murugan in Delhi itself to celebrate Pongal. Last year too, the Prime Minister had celebrated the Tamil New Year Puthandu at the house of his cabinet colleague Murugan in Delhi. Murugan is currently holding the responsibility of Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting and Fisheries in PM Modi’s cabinet. Murugan wants to contest the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from his home state. Murugan, former Tamil Nadu BJP president and currently Rajya Sabha member, is likely to contest from Nilgiri.

BJP’s special attention on southern politics
Since the BJP is focusing on southern politics, this move is expected to send a strong message to the voters. Under the rule of PM Modi, the government has organized two big successful events, which include Kashi Tamil Sangaman and Saurashtra Tamil Sangaman. These programs were to promote cultural exchange between the rich culture and heritage of Tamil Nadu and regions like Gujarat and Kashi. PM Modi had invoked the concept of “One India, Best India”, referring to the newly established Sengol in the new Parliament House.

Initiative to promote languages of South India
Apart from this, the promotion of Sanskrit and Tamil languages by the Center including the new education policy has been one of its notable achievements. Recently, many opposition parties have been criticizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his scheduled participation in the Ram Mandir consecration ceremony on January 22. Opposition leaders questioned why the PM was attending Abhishek and accused him of promoting Hindutva agenda for the 2024 elections. But the Prime Minister has always been accessible to different sections of the society, especially different communities, especially in the last few months.
