Plzeň was short in Teplice. The home team did not give a penalty in the eighth minute of regulation

In the first round of the new league season, Pilsen’s players only drew 2:2 in Teplice. The defending champions were losing 0:2 in the opening match of the 3rd preliminary round of the Champions League against Tiraspol in the 57th minute after two goals from domestic debutant Jakub Urbanec in the first leg, but then Jan Kliment reduced the deficit and substitute Jhon Mosquera equalized in the 71st minute.

In the eighth minute of regulation, Urbanec could have completed a hat trick, but goalkeeper Jindřich Staněk caught him from the penalty spot. Just before that, the captain of Viktoria Lukáš Hejda was expelled.

The West Bohemians have not lost in the league for the 23rd consecutive game since their defeat at Slavia last October and set a new club record. Teplice, who saved themselves among the elite last season only thanks to a successful play-off, did not win against Viktoria in the eighth competitive duel in a row.

Pilsen coach Bílek made four changes to the starting line-up compared to Tuesday’s victorious rematch of the 2nd preliminary round of the Champions League against Helsinki (5:0). Both coaches gave summer signings a chance at the tip of the attack. While Kliment started for Viktoria in a competitive match for the first time from the start, the Senegalese Gning made his league debut on the Teplice side. The same was true for the other two domestic players Urbanec and Křišťan.

Teplice entered the match more actively and opened the scoring in the 22nd minute. Gning got free in the middle of the field through two defending players, through Trubač and Jukl, the ball reached Urbanec on the left side, and the thirty-year-old debutant in the top competition ended the action with one touch with a surprising shot on the front post. Stanek reached for the ball, but was unable to dislodge it. The North Bohemians gave Pilsen a goal after five competitive duels and 538 minutes.

The West Bohemians were initially dangerous only after corner kicks, so coach Bílek strengthened the offensive in the second half with the second striker Chorý and Mosquera. On the other hand, the best player of the opening act Gning caused big problems for the strongest defense of the last league season.

The 23-year-old Senegalese, who spent the last season in the second division Vlašimi, won the ball in the penalty area in the 47th minute for Urbanec, who himself did not hesitate in front of Staňek. Viktoria conceded two goals in one competitive game after 16 matches.

The favorite then got a goal after a corner in the 58th minute, when Kliment found the ball on the back post and scored the second competitive goal in the Pilsen jersey with his head. The defending champions were chasing an equalizer and created a number of chances in quick succession. Kopice was caught twice by Grigar with great saves, and Chorý twice sent the ball just wide in a free fall chance.

Pilsen’s pressure culminated in the 71st minute, when after another corner Hejda hit the post with his head and Mosquera hit the ball into the net from close range. The rest of the match brought open football from both sides and finally a big drama in the set time.

Hejda pulled the escaping Kodado to the edge of the penalty area, and referee Machálek ordered a penalty, and also sent off the Pilsen captain. After consulting with the video referee and reviewing the situation, he confirmed the penalty kick. Urbanec could complete a hat trick, but he failed from the penalty, Staněk caught the shot with his right hand.
