Pluit Village Head Asks Acehnese Uduk Rice Seller to Sell Pork Jerky to Change Name

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

village head whistleNorth Jakarta, Sumarno reportedly summoned the seller of Nasi Uduk Aceh 77 who is suspected of providing menus pork jerky.

Sumarno’s plan was revealed from a written statement by the Aceh Government Liaison Agency (BPPA) which had visited the seller. In response to the protest from the provincial liaison agency, Sumarno confirmed that he would ask the seller to no longer wear the Aceh label.

“We will call the seller to remove the Aceh name label, because Aceh is known as the Veranda of Mecca,” said Sumarno in a written statement submitted by the Aceh Government Liaison Agency (BPPA), Thursday (16/6).

The BPPA team has reviewed the location for selling Nasi Uduk which is in the Muara Karang area. Upon arrival at the location, the seller has changed the identity of his merchandise from ‘Nasi Uduk 77 Aceh’ to ‘Nasi Uduk 77’ accompanied by non-halal writing.

The Head of Pluit Village Administration, Bakar Usman, who is accompanying the BPPA team will continue to monitor the Nasi Uduk outlet even though it is no longer wearing the Aceh embellishment.

“We will continue to monitor the shop,” said Bakar.

Meanwhile, Head of BPPA Almuniza Kamal said his party knew about ‘Nasi Uduk Aceh 77’ which sold non-halal menus after it went viral on social media. The news was also known to the Governor of Aceh, Nova Irianysah.

“Then the Governor of Aceh, Nova Iriansyah, directed us to directly check the existence of the Nasi Uduk stall,” said Kamal.

Kamal explained that his party did not prohibit residents from selling Nasi Uduk with pork jerky as long as it did not include the name of Aceh.

He emphasized that Aceh is a province that implements Islamic law. The majority of the population is Muslim. So far, the culinary arts from Aceh are also halal so that they can be eaten by all people.

“We hope that there will be no more sellers who serve non-halal menus, but include the name Aceh,” he said.

CNNIndonesia.com has tried to confirm the information in this BPAA release to Sumarno. However, until this news was written, Sumarno had not responded to calls or text messages addressed to him.
