Plug goes out of TV service Stievie

DPG Media will stop its paying online TV platform Stievie Premium on September 1.

Stievie Premium, the paying online viewing service that launched Medialaan in 2013, has come to an end. For a fixed amount of 9.99 euros per month, users could watch 18 mainly Flemish channels. It concerned channels of Medialaan (for example VTM, Q2), but also those of SBS (FOUR, FIVE and SIX) and the VRT (One, Canvas, Ketnet). Stieve Premium coexisted with Stievie Free, which allowed viewing the Medialaan channels for free.

The service will close on September 1. DPG Media, the company that absorbed Medialaan in 2017, refers to the TV Flanders APP TV. There you can watch seventy channels for 9.95 euros per month. For DPG Media, the emphasis is on VTM Go, the free online streaming platform that runs on personalized advertising. In the autumn, the ‘Flemish Netflix’, a joint venture of DPG Media and Telenet, should also get off the ground. This is a paying online viewing platform that mainly focuses on Flemish fiction. According to the coalition agreement, the VRT must also step in.
