Snow and wind cause traffic problems in central Norway – the police ask people to leave their cars. All buses in Trøndelag have been canceled until further notice.
Vegtrafikksentralen Midt writes about challenging driving conditions throughout southern Trøndelag.
There is snow and poor visibility.
– Leave the car if you can, reads the call.
The police in Trøndelag write that a plow truck has overturned on county road 710 at Geitastranda in Orkdal west of Trondheim.
Vegtrafikksentralen Midt states that the plow truck was supposed to escort an ambulance which is now stuck at the scene. No one was injured, but the road is closed.
Three stretches of road are closed at seven o’clock on Sunday morning:
- County road 714 between Hitra and Orkanger
- County road 710 between Valset fergekai and Orkanger
- County road 717 between Rørvik ferry quay and Rissa
All bus traffic in Trøndelag has been suspended until further notice due to weather and road conditions, the company reports AtB at 06:12 Saturday.
Extreme snowy weather
– We have had extreme snowy weather since Saturday evening, in northern parts of Møre and southern parts of Trøndelag, says operator at Vegsentralen Midt Runar Kvalshaug.
In Nordmøre, it was particularly challenging at Smøla, where the plow crews had to help several motorists out of the snowdrifts.
Also in Trøndelag last night many cars were stuck in snow in the middle of the road, says Kvalshaug.
– Driving conditions are challenging on roads we manage to keep open. It is unusual for us to get so much snow in such a short time. Snowflake reduces visibility, says the traffic operator.
He says a good deal of snow has been forecast in Trøndelag on Sunday morning.
– Many messages
Operations manager Einar Røstum can definitely confirm that there is a snow problem.
– We have received many messages already. No serious accidents, but many have gotten stuck. There is a lot of wind, and there is a lot of snow, he tells VG.
– So the call is: Leave the car until the weather changes. The unfortunate thing about accidents is that there is little visibility, so most people who have to get out drive quite carefully, says Røstum.
Train trouble
The Dovrebanen has also been affected by the weather.
There are delays and changes at Trondheim station on the Dovrebanen, writes Bane NOR in a press release.
This is due to large amounts of snow. Bane NOR has no forecast for when traffic will return to normal.
