Plovdiv to Open New State Bus Station in Response to Transport Issues – BNT Updates

Plovdiv will have a state bus station. It will be located on the current bus space in front of the Central Railway Station. The measure was reached after some carriers refused to stop at the three private bus stations in the city because of high prices. Others have reduced transport to nearby and distant settlements from Plovdiv. Thus, there are even municipalities with no connection to the regional city, BNT recalls.

“North” bus station in the afternoon. Many students and workers are waiting to go home in the populated areas of the region. Some complain about irregular transport, others that buses do not stop at the bus station, and others complain about the neglected state of the sites.

“I travel in the direction of Starosel. There are three buses. The one that is at half past three in the afternoon today is the most regularly late. It comes at 4, 4 and 3 p.m. Both the “North” bus station and the “South” bus station are not in a flourishing state”

“I travel regularly. I would say that a lot of maintenance is required. They are quite backward in general”.

The average price for a bus to enter a bus station in Plovdiv is currently BGN 11, which makes it difficult for many carriers and they reduce the number of flights on the lines. Thus, in addition to the industry, people from places far from the city also suffered.

“Now at the moment the last flight is at half past eight, which is not good because there are children who attend schools, lessons. There are people who want to go to the theater and have to take a taxi home,” said Daniela Stoilova, mayor in the village of Branipole.

“I think a bus station will do a very good job, because in this way the price of the service can drop and, accordingly, the quality can improve”, hopes Pavel Mihailov, mayor of the municipality of “Rodopi”.

After the series of complaints and signals from citizens and mayors, the regional governor initiated the creation of a state bus station. It will be on the site of the now existing bus station, which the railway company acquired after the termination of the Central Station concession.

“At the moment, we expect this state bus station to receive a license by the end of January and to be able to carry out its activities. It should not be from only one supplier, so that we can create a better competitive environment in the city of Plovdiv among the carriers”, assured Ilia Zyumbilev, regional governor of Plovdiv.

Another bus station in Plovdiv seems to be necessary, since the private owner of the “YUG” bus station – “Hebrosbus” has already stated to BNT that they intend to close it and sell the land, and that the traffic be distributed between their other two bus stations – ” North” and “Rhodopes”.
