Jakarta –
A SMEV electric motorbike driver named Riza Ardiana said he was not allowed to charge at PLN’s charging facility in Malang, East Java. The story then went viral on social media.
According to his confession, he and his entourage went from Jakarta to Bali using SMEV electric motorbikes. Then when they stopped at PLN UP3 Malang and intended to charge their motorbike, the officers stopped them and asked them to go to Rampal.
“It’s very unfortunate that PLN UP3 Malang on Jalan Basuki Rachmat refused to allow us to run out of electric motorbike batteries on the grounds that the only available charging for cars and motorbikes was directed to Rampal,” wrote Riza via his social media which then went viral, quoted on Saturday (16/12) .
“In fact, electric motorbikes only need a normal plug and even if we have to pay, we will pay,” he added.

Curious about the chronology, detikOto immediately contacted Riza Ardiana via telephone. He confirmed that what was shared on social media was true. He and another group of four people received a less than friendly welcome from local officers.
“At that time our battery was dead. When we entered, we met a security guard. He then introduced us to Mr. Kukuh, he is the person in charge at SPKLU here. I approached him politely, I said I was touring and had run out of battery. Then he immediately answered that I couldn’t do that. here,” Riza told detikOto.
Riza said, at that time the motorbike battery he and his entourage had was really critical. He had begged the officer to help him. Because, charging an electric motorbike is the same as a cellphone, you can do it anywhere.
“Mr. Kukuh then left us. We brought our own (portable charger) from home. It can use normal electricity, nothing strange,” he explained.

Riza said that previously he and his entourage also had time to charge at SPKLU Wates, Central Java. They claimed to have received good service. However, the same thing was not obtained when he was at PLN UP3 Malang.
After receiving rejection, Riza and her friends finally decided to look for a nearby hotel to rest while charging their motorbike. They did not go to Rumpal as suggested by the officers.
PLN’s response to the viral electric motorbike case
PLN East Java Public Relations Manager, Anas Febrian also responded to the viral case. He initially apologized for what happened to Riza Ardiana and her entourage.
“In response to the complaint from Riza Ardiana’s account which was submitted via social media on November 15, PLN apologized for the inconvenience caused,” was Anas’ response when contacted by detikOto.
Anas explained that at PLN UP3 Malang there is only one SPKLU available for electric cars. So, the pump for electric motorbikes in the form of a SPLU is still not available. Currently, in Malang there are only 8 SPLUs and the closest one is in Rampal which is 1 km from UP3.
“In short, it’s not impossible, the facilities (SPLU) are not yet available, so the officers directed them to the nearest SPLU,” he said.
