State-owned electricity provider PT PLN has established a control center on Flores Island to ensure power supply reliability during the ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai District, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province. The control center facility will strengthen the electricity system on Flores Island and ensure its readiness to support the implementation of the ASEAN Summit in May. The control center will monitor and control all electricity systems on Flores Island, including power stations, for 24 hours. Electricity for the summit will be supplied by various sources such as gas, geothermal, diesel, solar, mini-hydro, and coal-fueled power plants. The electricity supply from those power plants is planned to be distributed using a 70-kV and 150-kV high-voltage overhead power line as well as a 20-kV distribution grid. The electricity system on Flores Island consisted of two systems, but they have been connected since July 2021. The new system is expected to support the implementation of the ASEAN Summit while also increasing the economic productivity of the local community in the long term. Indonesia is holding the ASEAN chairmanship from January 1 to December 31, 2023, and will host two summits this year.
