PLN Quickly Installs SPLU for Electric Motorbikes After Viral Video Outcry

Jakarta

The State Electricity Company (PLN) moved quickly after a viral video emerged of a SMEV electric motorbike driver who admitted that he was not allowed to charge it at the UP3 Malang office. They immediately installed SPLU facilities for electric motorbikes at that location.

Previously, a SMEV electric motorbike rider named Riza Ardiana shared his story on social media. At that time, he and his group touring Jakarta-Bali stopped at PLN UP3 Malang after their vehicle battery ran out. However, local officials prohibited it on the grounds that there were no SPLUs.

In fact, said Riza, he and his entourage brought a portable charger from home. Apart from that, charging an electric motorbike is claimed to be the same as a cellphone, meaning it can be done anywhere. As long as there is a socket and electricity.

After the case went viral, PLN UP3 Malang via its social media account immediately apologized. They admitted that they often charge electric motorbikes in the office.

“Of course we use operational motorbikes, we usually remove the battery and charge it in the office. Thank you for the input provided,” read a statement from PLN UP3 Malang, quoted on Wednesday (20/12).

The good news is that PLN immediately installed an electric motorbike SPLU at the UP3 Malang office. Previously, they only had one SPKLU for electric cars at that location.

“As of today, we have installed a SPLU at the UP3 Malang office. If you are willing to charge the electric motorbike, we will be happy to wait for your testimony,” they said.

Hearing the news that PLN had installed a SPLU at the UP3 Malang office, Riza Ardiana said she was happy. He and his entourage also wanted to visit the location to carry out charging while chatting casually with local officers.

“Thank God, great. Appreciation for PLN UP3 Malang which has been fast. Hopefully the service will get better,” was Riza’s response after hearing the news of the installation of SPLU at PLN Malang.

Case Chronology

When the video went viral, detikOto immediately contacted Riza Ardiana as a SMEV electric motorbike rider via telephone. He confirmed that what was shared on social media was true. He and another group of four people received a less than friendly welcome from local officers.

“At that time our battery was dead. When we entered, we met a security guard. He then introduced us to Mr. Kukuh, he is the person in charge at SPKLU here. I approached him politely, I said I was touring and had run out of battery. Then he immediately answered that I couldn’t do that. here,” Riza told detikOto.

Riza said, at that time the motorbike battery he and his entourage had was really critical. He had begged the officer to help him. Because, charging an electric motorbike is the same as a cellphone, you can do it anywhere.

“Mr. Kukuh then left us. We brought our own (portable charger) from home. It can use normal electricity, nothing strange,” he said.

Riza said that previously he and his entourage also had time to charge at SPKLU Wates, Central Java. They claimed to have received good service. However, the same thing was not obtained when he was at PLN UP3 Malang.

After receiving rejection, Riza and her friends finally decided to look for a nearby hotel to rest while charging their motorbike. They did not go to Rumpal as suggested by the officers.
