Grandmother payments will begin in October 2024

In June 2024, the Act of May 15, 2024 on supporting parents in professional activities and raising children was published in the Journal of Laws, which changed the rules for providing and paying benefits aimed at helping parents in raising their youngest children. This is a package of benefits for which applications can be submitted from October 1, 2024, and whose names refer to the activities of parents. It includes benefits:

• active parents at work,
• active in kindergarten,
• active at home.

The first is a commonly known benefit grandmotherwhich has no equivalent among the benefits available to parents before the 1st birthday October 2024. It is available to professionally active parents with children aged 12 to 35 months and usually amounts to PLN 1,500. You can download them for 24 months. In the case of children with a disability certificate, including the following symptoms: the need for permanent or long-term care or assistance from another person due to a severely limited ability to live independently and the need to -regular daily participation of the guardian of the child in the process of treatment, rehabilitation and education, the amount of the benefit increases to PLN 1,900 per month.

An important feature of this benefit is that the parents who receive it can decide for themselves how to spend money from the benefit. They can keep it to themselves and use the grandmother’s informal help to care for the child, but they can also enter into what is called an executive agreement, either with the child’s grandmother or someone else highwho would like to be a nanny. It may be beneficial for the person taking care of the child to conclude such an agreement because it provides, among others: co-financing from the state budget for retirement costs , disability and health insurance for such a person. There will be no additional costs for the child’s parents, and not only will seniors who take advantage of this opportunity be able to count on additional financial resourceswhich they receive from the parents of their ward, but also – in a situation where they are already receiving a pension – they will be able to apply to convert the basis of the contributions and receive a higher pension benefit. However, it is worth remembering that it is not necessary to conclude such an implementation agreement, or any other agreement with a nanny, and it is not a condition to be entitled to a benefit.
