/ world today news/ Russia is trying to destroy the EU, and the crisis in Ukraine led to the era of “Cold Peace” after the end of the Cold War. This was stated by Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev, quoted by AFP, in his speech before the European Parliament.
“The Kremlin opposes us and is trying to destabilize the EU … it is trying to collapse the foundations of the EU, which are unity, solidarity and the rule of law,” Plevneliev said in Strasbourg.
The Bulgarian president has expressed hope that there will be no new Cold War, but according to him, Russian actions in Ukraine have led to a “time of Cold Peace” in which no one wants war, but conflicts are available.
Plevneliev warned that a possible acceptance of the Russian intervention in Ukraine and especially the annexation of Crimea by the West would be welcome for Moscow’s interests.
“If the West allows it, it will be a historical shame… For me, for us, Crimea is Ukraine and Ukraine is Europe,” said Plevneliev in his next statement against Russia.
As BGNES reported, after his speech, Plevneliev revealed to journalists that progress had been made in the visa-free negotiations between Bulgaria and Canada. In addition, the president expressed his support for Great Britain remaining in the EU, as well as the opinion that the politicians in Macedonia should deal with the crisis in the country themselves.
