/ world today news/ “These are Rosen Plevneliev’s clumsy attempts to delay things, i.e. to keep this government in power. They are expressed in too time-delayed consultations. Consultations with GERB began this week. Next week they will be with other political forces. A National Security Advisory Council will be convened next week.”
This is how the Deputy Chairman of the ABV Rumen Petkov commented to the “Focus” agency about the consultations started by President Rosen Plevneliev with the political parties represented in the parliament after the resignation of the government.
“This way, 20 days are guaranteed for Borisov’s cabinet, which has resigned. After the Advisory Council, a mandate will probably be handed over to a third political force, because GERB and BSP refused,” Petkov emphasized and reaffirmed the position that ABV will not back down with a decision to form a government.
“A third political force will be handed the mandate to roll on for another week and more or less get to Christmas, then naturally the resigned government will start next year.” That’s not how it’s done. This is how we turn people away from politics and show that the hatred towards the political system is the result of precisely such ridiculous actions,” the ABV vice-president also commented.
“For us from ABV, it will be very interesting to see which political force would seek the formation of a new cabinet, which would give it the opportunity to spread some intentions in a very populist way, to show the draft composition of the cabinet, to present it to the public for 10 days and then to more modestly announce that a cabinet will not be formed and proceed to the appointment of a caretaker government,” he added. According to Rumen Petkov, all this can be avoided through public talks between the head of state Rosen Plevneliev and the newly elected president Gen. Rumen Radev.
“From ABV we stated that this parliament does not have the moral right, it does not have the credit – neither political nor moral – to accept the new budget. Thus, the risk is taken that one of the first bills that will be considered by the next parliament will be related to changes in the republican budget , which will be a very bad sign for our economy. It is also a bad sign for investors, because we are about to disperse them for years to come. Second, this parliament cannot engage in any way, precisely because of its nullified authority in front of the Bulgarian citizens , with changes in the electoral regulations. Thirdly, it is obvious that the public dissatisfaction with this regime, I use this word not by chance, erupted with an unheard of protest vote in recent years, comparable to that of Zhan Videnov’s time,” said Rumen Petkov.
“So far we have made 5 changes to the Constitution, all addressed to the judicial system, and the public feeling of injustice continues to deepen. We continue to reflect on the topic of the judicial system and reforms, but always someone says that there are things that only the Great National Assembly can decided. Let’s call it,” said the deputy chairman of the PP ABV, reaffirming the party’s position on the need to convene a Grand National Assembly.
“Let’s see if we are satisfied with the fact that when the president imposes a veto, with a very limited number of people’s representatives, this veto can be overcome. Or we want to protect the public interest through a much more solid discussion to be provoked in the National Assembly and arguments for finding one or another solution”, comments Petkov.
In connection with the possible participation of the newly elected president gen. Rumen Radev in the process of forming a caretaker government, Petkov stated:
“It is politically normal, desired and expected by society that he has a very serious, if not key, role in the formation of the next cabinet. Either way he will work with it. You understand what impression we will create in the society and our international partners, if it becomes necessary for him to make personal changes or replace the entire cabinet upon taking office on January 22. This will consolidate the peak achievement with the replacement of Irina Bokova’s candidacy with Kristalina Georgieva. We will show the world that, in addition to the lack of adequate assessment of our international performance, we are also capable of doing all sorts of pranks in domestic politics.”
According to him, ABV is strengthening its positions in the political life of the country.
“As a result of the elections in which we participated, we can talk about a solid core of voters – about 100,000 people. This is a very serious foundation and the main issue before us is to concentrate efforts in the organizational further development of the party and determine the political messages and priorities,” commented the ABV vice-chairman.
