Plenty of space and comfort for entertaining baseball fans

It took more than 200 hours of volunteer work until the new wooden house with storage room next to the training area was built. But everyone involved agrees that the effort was definitely worth it. “We are very grateful to the Stadtsparkasse for this fundraising campaign and are pleased that so many people voted for our project. Due to the high costs of wood and other building materials, we would not have been able to purchase the sales house with our own financial resources,” says Matthias Fröse, who, in addition to his involvement in the catering team, is also treasurer and junior coordinator at Baseball and softball department of TSV Holm is. The volunteers individually expanded and adapted the finished wooden hut kit so that there was enough space for a grill, refrigerators and for storing the wide range of food and drinks.

The baseball and softball department of TSV Holm von 1910 e. V. has existed since July 1, 1990. Since 2022, athletes have been able to train on the “Am Sportzentrum” site in Holm – according to their own statement, the most beautiful baseball field in northern Germany. The department has already created a number of things on its own, for example the specially built grandstand wall, where spectators can easily follow the game, or the so-called dugouts, in which the teams and match reporters stay during the game. The club members also built these themselves.

In the “Good for the Community” online voting by Stadtsparkasse Wedel in March of this year, the “Holm Westend 69’ers Baseball & Softball” project received more than 400 votes. The ball athletes took fourth place in the ranking and were pleased to receive a donation of 2,800 euros. “We are very pleased to support the valuable work of the volunteers here in Holm. On the one hand, it’s great to see the effort that goes into offering all guests not only great sport but also an extensive range of catering. On the other hand, the sale also provides additional income for the department, which they can use to promote young people,” explains Marc Cybulski, CEO of Stadtsparkasse Wedel, at the meeting at the training ground.

Stadtsparkasse Wedel donated a total of 30,000 euros to non-profit organizations in Wedel and the Wedel area through this year’s online voting fundraiser.
