“All cases are foreign travelers, with the most arrivals from Saudi Arabia, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates and the United States,” said the spokesperson for the COVID-19 vaccination of the Ministry of Health, Dr Siti Nadia Tarmizi, quoted from the official website of the Ministry of Health, Saturday (1/1/2021).
There are patients with moderate symptoms
Previously, Dr. Nadia said that most of the COVID-19 patients with the Omicron variant in Indonesia had no symptoms at all. It also appears symptomatic, tends to be very mild.
However, now in the 68 new cases of the Omicron variant of COVID-19, 29 patients have no symptoms, 29 other patients are sick with mild symptoms, 1 patient has moderate symptoms, and 9 other patients are without explanation.
Referring to the comparison of the increase in cases of the Omicron variant with the Delta variant, the World Health Organization (WHO) said that there is a possibility that there will be a rapid increase in the addition of cases due to the spread of the Omicron variant.
However, due to the low risk of serious illness, the rate of use of hospital or ICU beds due to Omicron infection is said to be lower than during the Delta variant period.
Dr. Nadia also appealed to the Indonesian people not to travel to a number of countries with high transmission of the Omicron variant. These include Saudi Arabia, Turkey and the United States.
“Don’t be selfish, you must refrain from traveling to countries with very high transmission of COVID-19, such as Saudi Arabia, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, and the United States. We must work together to protect those closest to us from contracting COVID-19. Let’s restrain ourselves,” said Dr. Nadia.
