Playstation Stars Loyalty Program Gets Integrated into Playstation 5: Showcase Your Collectibles and Earn Points

Highlights

PlayStation Stars is headed to PlayStation 5, allowing players to showcase their unlocked collectibles and earn points right on the console. Incorporating PlayStation Stars into the console eliminates the need to use a separate mobile app to access them, making it more convenient for players to participate. Players can customize their privacy settings and choose to share their PlayStation Stars level and collectibles with others, but these options are only available for adult accounts.

Gamers who have spent the past year working tirelessly to unlock collectibles in Sony’s PlayStation Stars program will now have a new place to display their favourites, as PlayStation Stars integration seems headed for Playstation 5. The free loyalty program allows players to earn points, purchase products and unlock collectibles by purchasing and playing PlayStation games.

When PlayStation Stars launched last year, it uniquely revolutionized product loyalty programs in the home console space. By completing various campaigns, PlayStation Stars members can unlock game-themed digital collectibles and earn points that can be redeemed for various rewards such as PlayStation Store Credit. These campaigns range from simple activities, such as playing a specific game within a certain amount of time, to more challenging tasks such as being the first player in a region to unlock a Platinum Cup at a specific address. Members of Sony’s PlayStation Plus program can also earn bonus points by purchasing games through online PlayStation storefronts.

According to a report on gaming site TwistedVoxel, the new PlayStation 5 update will finally integrate PlayStation Stars functionality directly into the popular console. Allowing players to access the loyalty program on their console rather than requiring them to use a separate mobile app to do so should eliminate friction and help Sony sign more players into the PlayStation Stars programme. The gaming giant has long promised to integrate PlayStation Stars functionality directly into Sony’s home console, and it comes nearly a year after the loyalty program began rolling out worldwide.

Owners of Sony’s latest console will be able to access the new functionality through the PlayStation 5’s privacy settings menu, where they can customize what information they want to share with others about their membership. Players who wish to show their status will have the option to share their PlayStation Stars level with other players as well as view any collectibles they have earned during their time in the programme. In an effort to protect the privacy of underage players, or perhaps just to avoid younger players being detected as potentially collectible from M-rated titles, these options will only be available to adult accounts on PlayStation Network in regions where PlayStation Stars is offered.

Allowing players to access and share their PlayStation Stars level and unlock collectibles directly from Playstation 5 A smart move on Sony’s part, and it could help drive interest in the company’s often-overlooked loyalty program. Whether the bragging rights associated with finally being able to prominently display unlocked collectibles will be enough to motivate players to take on some of the program’s more difficult challenges, though, remains to be seen.
