PlayStation Plus provides access to many games, including some fairly large ones. Many were interested in how this affects sales
Researchers continue to dig into Insomniac Games materials that were released online by hackers. One of the presentations that caught our attention was showing the results of the study and the forecast of the impact of the PlayStation Plus subscription on sales of Horizon Forbidden West.
Sony has concluded that the subscription model provides a serious impact on “traditional sales” (not in a good way for the publisher): with the inclusion of Horizon Forbidden West in the PS Plus subscription, the graph shows a surge in player activity, but sales have almost stopped growing.
Sony estimates that Horizon Forbidden West would have made $124 million in revenue in its second year, without the addition of PS Plus (that’s 30% of its first year).
Taking into account the inclusion in the subscription, the amount in the forecast dropped to $35 million (9% of the amount for the first year)
