PlayStation Plus – Race against Sony

At the end of March, Sony unveiled its new PlayStation Plus offering for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 players, which is scheduled to launch in Europe this summer.

The new PlayStation Plus will consist of three different subscriptions, Essential, Extra and Premium, and gives users access to hundreds of games for a certain price a month. In other words, something similar to what the PlayStation Now service offers today.

As part of the transition, the remaining months of PS Now membership will be automatically converted to PlayStation Plus Premium. And at no extra cost.

Microsoft has a similar offer for Xbox Live users who can convert their subscription to GamePass.

PS Plus Premium

As today’s PS Plus and PS Now are cheaper than the upcoming Premium subscription, several players have taken the opportunity to top up their PlayStation account with several months to save some money, but now it turns out that Sony has blocked the opportunity to add more PS Now and Plus gift cards to your accounts, writes the PushSquare website.

Players who try this are met with the error message: «The gift card could not be redeemed. Please try again later.”

An email sent from PlayStation Customer Support to a user states:

“I have checked your gift card and account and can confirm that we have currently temporarily disabled the ability to stack memberships on already active memberships for PS Plus and PS Now subscriptions. It is only temporary, and as soon as we know something more we will inform our players. For more information on news about the launch of our new service, read our blog. “

The Gamer website wrote in April that PlayStation players are adding more years to their PS Now subscription to get cheaper PS Plus Premium memberships, and it is this opportunity that Sony is apparently stopping.

Annoyed at Sony

One of the reasons why gamers are reacting to Sony is that gaming competitor Microsoft has not blocked a similar option for the GamePass streaming service.

Both in the comment field for PushSquare and on game forum ResetEra PlayStation players are furious at Sony’s decision to disable the ability to stack gift cards.

“So far this has been a big joke”, writes one dissatisfied player, while another writes that “I expect them to go back on this, but it definitely requires more pressure”.

At the same time, there are a number who react to the fact that the company has so far not commented on the matter.

At the same time, there are users who defend Sony:

“I guess this is a misunderstanding and a problem with Sony’s systems. They are preparing the biggest service changes in the company’s history. It can not be easy to achieve and mistakes will occur “, one writes.

Sony has so far not commented on the matter. We have contacted PlayStation in Norway for comment, but at the time of writing have not received a response.
