PlayStation Layoffs Hit Guerrilla Games: Horizon Forbidden West Team Affected

The Impact of Layoffs on PlayStation Employees

Guerrilla Games Alters Course as PlayStation Layoffs Affect Projects

The recent wave of layoffs at PlayStation has rattled the gaming community. Reports indicate that approximately 10% of Guerrilla Games’ workforce, around 40 employees, were affected by the cuts. Guerrilla Games, the team behind the highly anticipated game Horizon Forbidden West, has undoubtedly experienced a significant impact.

Chanté Goodman, the senior community manager at Guerrilla Games, expressed her heartfelt sentiments on Twitter following the news of her departure: “It has been an honour to work at Guerrilla, with such fantastic talent. To the Horizon community, I’m sorry it has worked out this way, but I want you to know I would have gone with you to the end.”

Goodman fondly recalled her time as the community manager, citing the interactive livestreams and GAIA Cast as the highlights. She emphasized the exceptional warmth, humor, and kindness of the Horizon community.

It seems Guerrilla Games was not the only studio affected by these layoffs. Naughty Dog, Insomniac Games, and Firesprite also experienced cuts. Furthermore, the long-rumored Twisted Metal game from Firesprite was cancelled, which further adds to the somber news. Regrettably, London Studio, famous for games like The Getaway and Blood & Truth, had to call it curtains as the studio closed entirely. The fantasy-based online co-op game that had been teased by the studio years ago is confirmed to be dead with the closure.

This unfortunate turn of events sheds light on the uncertainty of the gaming industry and the challenges faced by employees, even in high-profile studios. It is a reminder of the need for support and solidarity within the gaming community.
