PlayStation boss hints at answer to Microsoft’s Game Pass

One of Microsoft’s strongest assets for the Xbox Series X | S is Game Pass, a service that allows you to download and play a lot of great games for a monthly payment. This also includes first-party releases and the avid gamer can save a lot through this program. Sony has answered this with the PlayStation Plus Collection, which consists of various PS4 games that can be played on the PlayStation 5 free of charge. Provided you are a PlayStation Plus subscriber, of course.

Previously, Sony indicated that it would not come up with a service similar to Game Pass, because it would not be profitable enough. An understandable reaction, because giving away many games for a fixed monthly fee may not be the most sensible thing to do from a financial perspective. However, Microsoft knows how to attract the necessary gamers, but how they will make it profitable remains to be seen. In any case, the positions of both companies seemed clear, but Sony is now coming back to this anyway.

In an interview with the Russian TASS Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan has indicated that Sony has something else in the pipeline. He didn’t want to get into this in the conversation, but it is coming. When it comes, however, the next question we don’t have an answer to either, because for now Ryan is referring to PlayStation Now as a nice service to use.

“There is actually news to come, but just not today. We have PlayStation Now which is our subscription service, and that is available in a number of markets.”

It is doubtful whether Sony will really come up with a copy of Game Pass, because that is at odds with previous statements that it would not be tenable in the longer term. But Sony may have found a creative interim solution and as soon as we hear something you can read it here.
