PlayStation believes that its players can migrate to Xbox for ‘Call of Duty’

PlayStation has shown concern for the first time after purchasing Activision Blizzard by Xbox, its rival in the video game market. Especially, a franchise can, according to the company, change the landscape: Call of Duty.

Sony’s concern lies in the famous shooting saga that could cause a migration of players to the competition.

It worries them Call of Duty

Sony recently gave a series of new statements to the Brazilian regulatory board regarding the acquisition of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft for 68 billion dollars

In it, he revealed that his main concern about Call of Duty be owned by Microsoft is that it could lead to more gamers playing the series on Xbox. Given how entrenched the saga, PlayStation seems to believe that Microsoft’s ownership of the brand could influence where people seek to experience the franchise.

According to a 2019 study, the brand was the only video game IP to break into the top 10 of all entertainment brands among fans, joining powerhouses like Star Wars, Game of Thrones, Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings. Sony said in its official statement.”Call of Duty is so popular that it influences users’ choice of console, and its loyal user community is so entrenched that even if a competitor had the budget to develop a similar product, they wouldn’t be able to compete with it.”

But Xbox has not signaled exclusivity

Previously, Phil Spencer, head of Xboxhas announced that it plans to continue the contracts it maintains Activision with Sony so that Call of Duty keep coming to PlayStation. However, plans could change.

“To be clear, Microsoft will continue to make Call of Duty and other popular titles from Activision Blizzard are available in PlayStation during the term of any existing agreement with Activision. And we’ve made a commitment to Sony that we’ll also make them available on PlayStation beyond the existing agreement and in the future so that Sony fans can continue to enjoy the games they love”, confirmed the company.

The acquisition can be completed in the remainder of the year until the end of fiscal year 2023.
