PlayStation 5 warns users when they launch PS4 version of cross-gen game – Gaming – News

PlayStation 5 users will note that they will now be notified when they launch the PS4 version of a game installed both as a PS4 version and as a PS5 version. Sony seems to be bringing the report to users in phases.

The notification, which include Twitter user Tidux shares, appears when a user tries to launch the PS4 version of a game that has both PS4 and PS5 versions. The console will ask the player if he or she really wants to play the PS4 version, or if he or she would rather switch to the PS5 version. Tidux tried it at Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, but on Reddit users notice that this also works with other games. It appears that Sony is phasing this feature to users, some users have noticed this feature for several weeks.

Unlike the Xbox Series consoles, the PlayStation 5 doesn’t necessarily install the next-gen version of a game. Gamers who have both the PS4 and PS5 versions installed can accidentally play the PS4 version of a game that way. With this report, Sony probably wants to prevent this. However, in some cases, the user will want to start the PS4 version consciously, for example to play VR mode. Certain games also require the user to start the PS4 version first in order to transfer the save game to the PS5 version.
