PlayStation 5 Software Update: Dolby Atmos Support & 8TB SSD Upgrade

The PlayStation 5 console will receive a major software update in the coming months
This includes, for example, support for Dolby Atmos or up to 8TB SSD

Many a gamer is sure to solve the question of which game console is better. Everyone has to answer this for themselves, but if you have already decided on a team from the Japanese islands, we have good news for you. Sony is currently rolling out a new version of the software to beta testers that adds some very useful improvements. Among the most prominent are, for example, support for first-class Dolby Atmos sound or the ability to install an M.2 SSD with a capacity of an incredible 8 TB in the console.

The main role is more memory and better sound

The already mentioned Dolby Atmos will complement Tempest 3D AudioTech from Sony and will be available both for games and within third-party applications such as Netflix. Allowing double the memory of the current maximum (4TB) is also a welcome change, however minimal requirements, such as a speed of 5500 MB/s and higher, are still maintained. Nevertheless, the options will be expanded, especially for more demanding players, for whom the 4 TB space may simply not be enough, given the ever-increasing demands of new games.

Several novelties also concern the user environment. For example, you can now turn off the sound when switching the console on and off, or adjust its volume. You can also enable the DualSense controller’s haptic feedback when browsing in the UI if you missed that option. For playing with small children, the second controller can now be used in the so-called assistance mode, where you can help a small player with, for example, a difficult passage, so that the game is not unnecessarily frustrating, and at the same time he does not feel that you have completely taken over the reins of the game.

Don’t overlook

Sony expands game streaming. Soon you will be able to play the latest titles on PlayStation 5

The social aspects of the console have also been improved. You can now invite players to a closed party without having to add them to a group, and you can also send invitations to an open or closed party to entire groups, not just individuals. Before joining a group, you can now preview the screen someone is sharing, similar to Discord. The icing on the cake is the ability to respond to messages via emoji. If you want to try the news now, you can sign up for beta testing at official website. Otherwise, you just have to wait a few weeks or months before the finished version is available for all users.
