The day before yesterday, Sony finally announced the long-speculated new version of the PlayStation 5 console. As expected, it will finally offer a lighter weight and a slimmer design, while being overall more flexible for gamers, as well as a separate drive for those who buy the digital edition. The presentation of the new revision was accompanied by details and changes that will take place. These include an increase in storage capacity from 825 GB to 1 TB, but of course the new dimensions are also important. Some players focused on them and decided to compare the original console model with the new one at the moment, at least unofficially.
For example, a user with the nickname NatureCertain started the comparison, who shared the result on Reddit on the PlayStation subreddit. In five images, he gradually compares the 3D model of the original standard version with mechanics together with the digital edition of the new model without mechanics. The reason is that the author did not have the model of the original digital edition available, as he later added himself, but this should not affect the result in any way. You can already see in the first picture that the difference is striking and it is a really significant reduction. Recall that the original PlayStation 5 console with mechanics had dimensions of 390 mm × 260 mm × 104 mm, while in the case of the new revision it is 358 mm × 216 mm × 96 mm.
It’s still not a small thing, but the reduction is definitely noticeable, all the better in the pictures. Apart from them, it will of course also be possible to notice a reduction in weight. Shortly after the announcement, TheVerge magazine also came up with a not-so-nice visual comparison, which used the website CompareSizes.com and compared the dimension values of both digital and standard editions.
