In November 2020, Sony has launched the new generation of PlayStation 5 consoles. Despite problems related to stock limitations, PlayStation 5 has set a new sales record. According to Sony, since its launch until the 18th of July this year, more than 10 million units have been sold all over the world.
The company claims that the PS5 is now the fastest selling console throughout its history. Also in April of this year, when it unveiled the financial results for its fiscal year 2020, Sony made it known which had sold 7.8 million consoles since its launch.

In a statement, Jim Ryan, President and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, said that despite the new milestone reached, the company still has “a lot of work ahead”, as “demand for the PS5 continues to outstrip the supply”.
“Although we continue to face unique challenges around the world, which affect not only our industry but others, increasing our stock levels remains a priority”, stresses the official.
Remember that according to notices left by the company to a group of analysts, PS5 stock limitations will continue into next year. Sony reportedly said that during the current fiscal year, which started on April 1, it expected to sell at least 14.8 million units: something particularly tricky as the company has no idea when the stock situation will components will return to normal.
In addition to the new record achieved by PS5, Sony also gives some milestones achieved by some of the titles developed for the console. Featured is Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, which has sold over 6.5 million copies since its release.
Already Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, released in June this year, has sold over 1.1 million copies worldwide, and Returnal which reached April 30, sold over 560,000 copies.
When it comes to future releases, Sony indicates that it has titles such as the new God of War, Gran Turismo 7 and Horizon Forbidden West, in addition to Battlefield 2042, DEATHLOOP, Far Cry 6 and Kena: Bridge of Spirits.
