PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X / S set sales records

It’s still almost impossible to get a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X. Still, the latest generation of consoles sells away as just that, and both Sony and Microsoft are reporting sales records for their respective machines.

In a press release Sony writes that PlayStation 5 has reached 10 million copies sold since its launch eight months ago. In comparison, it took PlayStation 4 about nine months to reach the same milestone, so PlayStation 5 is a notch ahead.

While the company is naturally pleased with the achievement, Sony CEO Jim Ryan is disappointed that it is not yet able to meet demand. In another statement Reuters Ryan said that it will still be “a while” until production reaches the desired level, thanks to the global chip shortage.

As for the Xbox confirmed Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella recently that Xbox Series X / S still holds the title of the company’s fastest selling console ever.

Microsoft still does not share official figures, but industry analysts Daniel Ahmad | estimates that the figure was 6.5 million copies sold as of June 30th. In comparison, the Xbox One was 5.7 million after the same period, while the Xbox 360 managed 5 million.
