In the third game in a row, Watch Dogs is closer than ever by hitting the nerve we’re all waiting for.
Have you ever dreamed of being a member of a group of hackers who are wrongly convicted of blowing up London? Neither do I. But, damn it, how fun it is when you first get started!
You jump into the story as an optional character, and are one of the last two members of the activist group Dedsec. They have been wrongly accused of blowing up London to pieces by the hacker group Zero Day, and this has led to a military group taking over power in London.

Choose who you are
One of the most striking and innovative things about the game is the great freedom of choice you get as a player. This time you do not play as a special character, nor as a carefully selected group.
In this game, you can convince every single person you see on the street to join the activist group you are a member of, Dedsec, and thus also play as that character.
All the people who walk around the streets have their own skills and things they are good at. In other words, you can recruit whoever it is to be able to play them. Police officers have the opportunity to enter the police station undisturbed, a doctor will be able to sneak around unnoticed around the hospital and the like.
The funniest thing you ask me, though, is to persuade something as banal as a construction worker to join Dedsec. When you play as a construction worker, you can call in a cargodrone, and land on any roof that suits you. The small drone works almost like a personal helicopter.
I would also recommend anyone playing to turn on the “permadeath” setting. Because you can play with every single person you see on the street, it does not matter if the agent you play actually stays dead if you die in the game. It’s a kind of realism I’ve not had in any other big game before. If your character dies, you will not get it back.
Still, be a little careful. Should you lose all your agents while playing with this setting, you will simply lose the entire game. It’s game over.

Little credible dialogues
Unfortunately, not all gold and green forests are in the Watch Dogs Legion. With such a large selection of playable characters, it is perhaps no surprise that the level of acting in the dialogues is not always at its peak.
Unfortunately, part of the dialogue is completely out of place, and the delivery of the lines sometimes makes you want to hide your head in the sofa cushion next to you.
Every time I have to recruit a new person to the group, I go straight up to a stranger on the street, ask if he wants to join what is considered the country’s most dangerous terrorist organization, and after a short side mission I get only positive answers. Not very credible in my book.
The main characters you play also often have contrived and “street-smart” comments, with a very excessive British accent. But, then there are some grains of gold among the characters. For example, the grandmother who drinks tea and eats biscuits, before beating up policemen with a stick.
Harmless fun
This game does not stand out in any particular way, but it is still a fun pastime if you do not expect it to run away with the prize for this year’s game. The map is big enough, it’s just good enough graphics so you do not get annoyed that it is bad. The animations are nice, the driving feels straightforward, the shooting is perfectly ok, and the degree of difficulty you decide through the settings.
There are many fun side activities you can take advantage of. For example, you can fight against a variety of people in a kind of boxing club, you can do tricks with footballs you find on the roadside to win various prizes, you can collect tech points around the city to upgrade your gadgets, and you can always recruit people according to the heart’s desire.
Personally, I have been completely hooked on the shopping mechanism in the game. There are dozens of clothing stores around central London, and they all have their own selection. If there’s one thing Watch Dogs has been really good at, it is the clothing selection. The selection is incredibly large, varied and well designed. If you are the type who likes to spend time dressing up your character in different styles, you will love it.
All in all, this is not a game that will run away with many prizes, but it is a game that will keep you entertained for hours. It’s a game you pick up when you just want to have some fun, shrug your shoulders, and relax after work.
Then it may be that the dialogue is not always a hit, and that the story is not very original. Not all games have to be a masterpiece to be entertaining to play.
