The arrival of confinement last year 2020 triggered the interest in buying second-hand game consoles, and demand for devices like the PlayStation 4 increased by 194%, as reported by the Milanuncios platform in Spain.
The second-hand technology sector moved more than 184 million euros last year (almost US $ 220 million), and the “Games” and “Telephony” categories are positioned as the categories that accumulate the most searches.
In the case of the first category, which accumulates more than 400,000 searches, the demand for video consoles and games for them stands out. In fact, game consoles account for more than half of the searches in this category.
With the start of confinement, users flocked to the second-hand market to get hold of different entertainment options to cope with time at home.
Regarding the offer, the video games of Sony’s fourth generation console accumulate 38,213 ads published in 2020. These items had a market value of 1.6 million euros and the average price per game is 44 euros.
It is followed by the publications of the device itself (previous editions) with about 31,000 ads last 2020. The average price of this Sony game console is 210 euros in the second-hand market and the total market value is 6.5 million euros.
The next category that accumulates a greater number of searches in the second-hand market is that of “Telephony”, with more than 200,000 during the past year.
In this section the Apple’s iPhone is the most demanded device by users. This smartphone registers its peak of searches in September, when the presentation of the new model of the apple company usually takes place. The iPhone is followed by searches for Samsung and Xiaomi devices.
The iPhone is the most offered device within the category, accumulating more than 71,000 publications during the past year. The average price of all the models of this device that are sold in the second-hand market is 396 euros. After this device, Samsung brand products are the most offered, with 55,877 ads during the year.
With the emergence of teleworking, many users had to go to the second-hand market to get work equipment. In this case, laptops and desktops registered an increase in demand in April, with the lockdown, and in September with the return of summer.
Specifically notebooks increased their demand in April more than 370% and 103% in September compared to before the start of the pandemic.
With regard to the offer of these devices, they accumulate between the two more than 85,000 publications. The average price of a laptop on the second-hand market is 258 euros, while that of a desktop computer is 271 euros.
