Party chairman Hoekstra (CDA) does not see anything in halving the livestock in our province. He said this on Saturday evening during the Debate of the South. He advocates focusing on innovation instead. Hoekstra fears that farmers will leave the country if even stricter requirements are imposed in the coming years. “There is still just as much meat eaten in the world, so it will be sourced from somewhere else.”
Pure bluf
According to Klaver, it is ‘pure bluff’ to claim that issues such as the nitrogen problem can be solved through innovation. “That hasn’t helped in the past twenty years either.” In addition, parties that do not want to cooperate in halving livestock are also playing a role in public health, he says. “We have seen with Q fever and corona what the consequences can be if a disease is transmitted from animals to humans.”
–
SP leader Marijnissen joined this. “I know people who were affected by Q fever years ago and are still sick from it. Since then the number of goats has not decreased, but increased. That is a fat catcher to all Brabanters affected by the disease.”

Collaboration with Forum
Not only Hoekstra and Klaver were diametrically opposed to each other during the debate. For example, party leader Kaag van D66 asked Rutte why he excluded a partnership in the House of Representatives with Forum for Democracy, but two years ago after the Provincial Council elections, he did work with Thierry Baudet’s party in the province. “So is Forum good enough for this purpose?”
–
Rutte countered that question by emphasizing that the VVD wanted to work together at the time with D66, Groenlinks and the Labor Party. “But then you walked away.” According to Kaag, this was because the VVD had in mind a coalition with Forum from the outset.
–
Then there was another striking moment at the start of the debate. Hoekstra bit to Ploumen that she ‘had rehearsed her point of view beautifully’. She reacted indignantly and soon received support from Kaag. “We are all preparing ourselves well, so we don’t let each other measure that up.”
